Why should I open a Credit Builder?
Your credit score is an incredibly important number that affects more than just your ability to qualify for a particular loan. Landlords and even employers look at your score as a signal of responsibility. While the credit bureaus cannot discriminate based on age, they implicitly do by taking into account how long it has been since you have opened your first loan. Spend a little money today to potentially save thousands or even tens of thousands of dollars in the future.
What factors into a credit score?
A credit score uses a number of factors to determine the credit-worthiness of an individual. Factors include payment history, total debt, length of credit history, new credit lines, and the various types of credit you have.
What is a Credit Builder?
A Credit Builder is a service that allows a member to build his or her credit score easily and affordably. GUASFCU will place a frozen loan into your account and make the interest payments on the loan on time every month. The only requirement of the member is to pay the interest up front, usually $30.00 total, and GUASFCU will do the rest. In a little bit of time, your credit score will go up!

How do I order checks?
Stop by the branch or give us a call at (202) 687-8616 and we will order them for you. We offer three check packages: convenience checks (4 checks for $5.00) which can be made on spot for you in the branch or you can order a check book of 48 checks for $16.00 or 120 checks for $32.00.
Are my funds federally insured?
Yes, your deposits are federally insured to at least $250,000 by the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA), the credit union equivalent of the FDIC.
How do I open an account?
To open an account with us, you need to be a Georgetown student, alumnus, or an immediate family member of a Georgetown student or alumni. You will need two photo IDs, one of which must be a government issued ID. A driver’s license, passport, work ID, and GoCard are all acceptable forms of a second ID. Stop by the branch to open an account. If you are unable to make it to our branch, you can open the account online on our website!
What is QuickPay?
Quickpay the free overnight electronic transfer service that allows a member to transfer funds from an domestic external bank to his/her GUASFCU account on an on-demand basis or a monthly basis (recurring on the 1st or 15th of every month). QuickPay is processed Sunday through Thursday evening, and the transfers are posted to members’ accounts Monday through Friday morning. Any QuickPay request is subject to our Funds Availability Policy. Fill out the QuickPay registration form to begin.
I moved, how do I update my address?
Simply complete the address change request form on our website and bring that into our branch along with a proof of address which can be a lease, phone bill, cable bill etc. If you cannot make it to the branch, simply email the completed form with a copy of your proof of address to email@example.com.
What is a house account?
A house account is perfect for paying your monthly rent bill. All roommates in a house can open the account, deposit money into the account and pay the landlord from one centralized account.
How do I remove a joint owner from my account?
As long as the account is in good standing (not overdrawn), simply complete the voluntary removal of joint owner request form found under forms on our website and bring it into the branch or email it to us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
I believe there may be fraudulent activity on my card, what should I do?
Contact us and we will capture that debit card and order you a new one. If there is fraud and you would like to dispute the charges, please file a Visa Cardholder Statement of Dispute form found on our website. To complete the dispute process, please include an official police report documenting the incident and a notarized copy of the dispute form. Then either mail it to our branch or email it to email@example.com.
How do I reset my pin?
Just call 1 (800) 992-3808 to reset your pin.
Do I need to alert you if I am traveling abroad?
Yes, please give us a call at (202) 687-8616 to tell us where you are traveling and we can mark your card as active abroad.
What is the $15.00 fee on my account?
That is an account inactivity fee. If you do not use your account for over 12 months, we assess an inactivity of $15.00 every three months. All you need to do is deposit or withdraw money into your account once per year and it will be active again.
